NOZAWA ARCHEOLOGY

***EXCLUSIVITY ***

Step back in history・・・long long ago

Today, Nozawaonsen village is famous for its ski resorts and hot springs that bubble up from the ground.

The history of the village dates back to the Paleolithic period (approximately 18,000 years ago),
and the ruins of pit buildings from the Jomon period (approximately 4,500 years ago) tell the lives of our ancestors who came to live in the village.
This archeology class takes you into the world of hunter-gatherers as you see and touch the beautiful pottery and ornaments, they left behind.

The Jomon period corresponds to the Neolithic period in world history.

The techniques of the Jomon period were very simple and are the basis of modern techniques.

During the long Jomon period of about 13,000 years, the climate was warm and cold,
but there was no shortage of food due to the abundance of the mountains.

For this reason, there was no hierarchy in the social organization, and a peaceful era continued without war.

When rice production began in earnest in the Yayoi period (approximately 3,022 years ago), the gap between rich and poor emerged and society changed rapidly.

Conflicts began to arise. The times changed quickly.

History is always changing.

Which era would you choose?

Shinshu (an old name for Nagano) is said to be a treasure trove of Jomon ruins.

The beech forest that spreads across the mountains of Nozawa Onsen Village
was a forest rich in food for the Jomon people.
Many wild animals that inhabit Japan and plants that are unique to Japan can also be seen in the beech forest.
Our ancient ancestors tell us how the abundant water and trees from the mountains are important and useful for us humans.
